Population Charts by County for 2005 and 2007
Projected Population Charts for California
The following charts were developed to provide a visual picture of the population changes projected in California counties. This population data was taken from the California Department of Finance web site http://www.dof.ca.gov/html/demograp/data/drudatafiles.asp and is broken down by age groups and gender. These graphs were developed by OSHPD and are designed for use by California consumers and health care providers.
Projected population by county in California for years 2005 and 2007. Charted data is depicted in two side-by-side bar graphs for male and female with age ranges from under five years to 85 years and over. Graph population is shown at the bottom of the chart while age ranges are on the left. Population axis values vary by county. Please refer to the data tables for specific data elements.

The projected populations from DOF includes all segments of the California population. Please note that there are certain considerations made for Special Populations by DOF when projecting population, as described below.
Special Populations
The primary sources of special populations are prisons, colleges, and military installations. Special populations display very different demographic characteristics and behavior. In counties where special populations represent a significant proportion of a specific race/ethnic population, they were removed from the base and projected separately. For prison and military populations, the determination was made based on an examination of sex ratios and, to a lesser extent, the age structure. College adjustments were based on an examination of age structure. Forecasts from the Department of Corrections, the California Youth Authority and the various college campuses were used to determine the timing and capacity of facilities. In most other instances, the special populations were held at the 2000 level. Source: http://www.dof.ca.gov/html/demograp/reportspapers/projections/p1/p1.asp
Attention Data Users: Please exercise caution when interpreting OSHPD data. The use of improper assumptions and analytical methods may result in erroneous or misleading conclusions. Conclusions drawn from OSHPD data are the sole responsibility of the user. Users should be aware that financial and utilization data products are based on a dynamic database that is constantly being updated. As a result, the same data item for a facility may change over time or be different between products.
