Community-Acquired Pneumonia Report

2003–2005 Report | 2002–2004 Report | 1999–2001 Report | 1999 – 2004 Trends in CAP Mortality | Model Development and Validation

Community-Acquired Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death both nationwide and in California. For this reason, OSHPD chose it to be one of the conditions studied in the California Hospital Outcomes Program (CHOP), an initiative mandated by the State of California. The report provides comparative information on the performance of hospitals in caring for these patients (see Chart 1). Reports on outcomes for community-acquired pneumonia are available for patients who received care in 1999 - 2001 and 2002 - 2004.

Utilizing data that hospitals are required to submit to the State, OSHPD uses a risk adjustment methodology to assess the quality of care for community-acquired pneumonia provided by California hospitals. The reports can help patients make informed decisions about their healthcare choices and give hospitals the opportunity to evaluate and improve their quality of care.
